The Challenge
The planning and drawings were nearly complete. The historic Carnegie Library was in need of a major renovation and the price tag was $70 Million, including a $20 Million campaign goal. The project was moving forward, but the campaign had not yet begun. Why would donors give to a library, when so much information is available through the internet and electronic devices?
The Solution
This campaign was not merely a renovation project. It was an opportunity to reinvent Central Library. The campaign was an opportunity to re-define the significance and relevance of libraries in contemporary times. It represented a promise of a democratic institution in which anyone of any background could access information and resources to improve and enrich their lives.
The Impact
“Central to Your World” became an important campaign for Civic Progress, to demonstrate its commitment to the community. The campaign secured its campaign goal by engaging leaders in an inspiring project that transformed a 100-year-old building into a living resource for the entire community.
