Fundraising is a daunting task.  There is much planning, meeting, and strategy involved - so much so that it can be overwhelming.  These 10 Tenets of Fundraising have been developed to help keep organizations focused and on track throughout the process.


Recruiting specific people for the campaign structure is imperative; the money raised is directly proportional to the quality of the people recruited to lead and serve the cause.


The secret ingredients are passion and attitude.


Few people make a gift without being asked…no one makes an increase without being encouraged.


People give to people, not organizations.


No one has ever been asked for too much money - many have been asked for too little.


Quite often, too much material and information about the organization clouds the decision to give. Don't over-complicate your Case for Support.


Recognition of the gift is best at the time the gift is made; without a thanks, the good feeling of giving decreases at an accelerated pace.


Paper only in forms. People inspire.


Showing up and making a personal ask is usually the key to securing a gift.


After all the meetings and planning someone, at some time, must ask for a gift. And somebody must give.
